Craftsman Era Bungalows in Clintonville
August 30th, 2008 1:52 AM

The Craftsman bungalow is one of my favorite home styles. Built just after the turn of the century the bungalow marked a return to simplicity without sacrificing quality. Leaving the towering brick victorian era behind the craftsman or "arts & crafts" homes were generally broad and low homes marked by wide eaves, open porches with tapered columns & bay windows. Inside you'd find lots of nooks and crannies and the popularization of built-in furniture. One of my favorites this year was a Bungalow I just sold that was situated on the edge of Overbrook ravine. This home had some of the highest quality interior woodwork that I've seen. The living & dining rooms had gorgeous mahogany woodwork, a built in buffet and china cabinet with intricate geometic wood latices. The design mirrored the staggered patterns in the uniquely framed windows. the built-in book cases in the dining room also echoed this pattern. There are many examples of the architectural style in the Clintonville area. Click on the "our featured homes" link on the Minister Realty web site and scroll through, you'll find several craftsman era homes priced from $210,00-$340,000 there are also photos and virtual tours ...
