The numbers are in!

The Clintonville-Beechwold homes tour was a success. Tickets sales doubled from the prior year. In spite of the 75 to 80 mile an hour winds after 4pm, tour-goers continued their quest to visit the homes. Most of the volunteers at the home we sponsored on W Dunedin did not realize the extent of the damage from our rainless storm, until we began our drives home at 5 pm. Most experienced detours due to downed trees from the storm. My first stop was the office, no damage there, but my neighbor to the south had 2 tall pine trees lying on his roof- tipped over with the root systems exposed! Amazingly his sturdy brick house took the hit with little damage, not even a hole in the roof!

Clintonville Architecture

One of the things I've always enjoyed about our Clintonville neighborhood is the variety of architectural styles represented.

The Clintonville community hosts the perfect yearly event for newcomers to familiarize themselves with neighborhood & for current residents to admire renovated homes. This years homes tour event is scheduled for Sunday, September 14th from noon to 5 pm. It's a perfect year to see a variety of architectural styles. From French Provincial to Craftsman era, Classic colonials & Cottswald cottages. You can purchase tickets online at clintonvillehomestour.com. All proceeds go to the Clintonville Fund.

Craftsman Era Bungalows in Clintonville

The Craftsman bungalow is one of my favorite home styles. Built just after the turn of the century the bungalow marked a return to simplicity without sacrificing quality. Leaving the towering brick victorian era behind the craftsman or "arts & crafts" homes were generally broad and low homes marked by wide eaves, open porches with tapered columns & bay windows. Inside you'd find lots of nooks and crannies and the popularization of built-in furniture. One of my favorites this year was a Bungalow I just sold that was situated on the edge of Overbrook ravine. This home had some of the highest quality interior woodwork that I've seen. The living & dining rooms had gorgeous mahogany woodwork, a built in buffet and china cabinet with intricate geometic wood latices. The design mirrored the staggered patterns in the uniquely framed windows. the built-in book cases in the dining room also echoed this pattern. There are many examples of the architectural style in the Clintonville area.
